Tasting Finland in Manila

Posted on

I was walking along the overpass going to Eastwood when I noticed a large poster with a title “the Taste of Finland”  I was amazed because its a cooking show and celebrity chef, Sara La Fountain will be the one to demonstrate Finnish Cuisine here in Manila
it was organized by Asian Food Channel (AFC) together with students of De La Salle College of St. Benilde – HRIM.
After we register, they provided us some freebies.  Appetite magazine and a fan LOL nice!
nice one!
Sara presented some of the easy to cook Finnish meal and for the appetizer, Shrimp Skagen with Dark Sweet Bread. Sara said that she planned to bring some rye bread but it got lost along the way so she substituted it with a white bread which is common here in the Philippines.  It’s like a shrimp spread with a kick because of the horseradish which is a signature of Scandanavian cooking.

Next is Pytipannu, a popular dish in Finland which traditionally consisting of potatoes, onions, and any kind of meat or sausage, diced and then pan fried, it is often served with a fried egg, pickled diced beetroot, sour pickled gherkin, and capers.

And the demo wont be complete without a dessert Le Pain Perdu (french toast with wild berries).  It is prepared with combination of strawberries, raspberries, reduced with some lemon juice and some corn syrup topped with whipped cream.

We are lucky cause we are able to taste all of the food that was demonstrated.  Last part of the event is the meet and greet with the celebrity chef herself.
Sara is beautiful and bubbly.  I was so starstrucked by her that I can’t say a word when I met her in person.  Looking forward to see her new book and hopefully, she’ll visit Manila again
